Finishing cherry wood after burn

Greetings all
Just purchased a custom phone case, cherry wood with an image of moonscape etched.

Came out more subtle that planned, good detail but faint against the darkness of the cherry ( I was anticipating maple and made my image accordingly-

So, any suggestions on how I might salvage this by bleaching the cherry selectively after removing what I think is oil based poly pre-etch sealant?

Big image is what I have. Small image was what I wanted, last image is the one i supplied for etching very high res black and white

Thanks for your thoughts!

Sorry but I believe in reality you have messed up the wood. Has nothing to do with it being cherry.

Why did you apply pre-etch? Sanding sealer, water based makes an excellent sealer. Apply your finish after doing the engraving.

Use some scrap to test your settings.

It’s probably too thin but the only way I know to recover it is to sand it down. It may just be scrap at this point. :frowning:
