Flash read error on connection

When I set up my laser it worked just find instantly, however after going away to learn how to use lightburn it has decided not to connect… Any help out there ?

I’ve uninstalled everything, cleaned up my laptop, Remi stalled drivers and lightburn… I’m stuck and incredibly frustrated as I was so looking forward to making my firs real cut

What is message in console?
Is laser showing up in your device manager?

Console says disconnected, or waiting for connection

It is showing up in manager and usb is recognised

Changed usb cable, and tried different ports?

My laptop only has the one usb port but I tried another cable just to make sure!

I’ve emailed support and I’m still waiting to hear back. I’ve also contacted the seller on Amazon, I will get either a solution or replacement and if nothing else my money back but I really want this… I’ve been learning about the different aspects of laser engraving since I set it up yesterday so you can imagine how upsetting it is for it to not connect today. I just keep hoping that it’s a simple setting I’ve missed but so far everything I’ve seen and tried hasn’t resolved it. So far anyway

This is not very common for the S30 Pro machine. Try this…

  1. Plug laser USB into PC.
  2. Power up laser.
  3. Power up PC.
  4. Launch Lightburn.

It should show some blah, blah, blah in the Console window, ending with Ok.

I will try that this combination this morning, I have tried many combinations but will try this one again.

I have also adjusted firewall on pc and tried with firewall off. I reset my laptop and reinstalled Lightburn since I did all of the combinations, so will do all of that again

Any luck with the startup sequence?

I don’t see many Sculpfun S30 issues in the forum. If the startup sequence fails, I say send it back and have them replace it with another like it.

I do that sequence every time now to make it a habit but it made no difference with whatever has gone wrong.

I have heard back from Sculpfun who suggested I check the USB settings which I had already because aware of, that is all good. They said if that’s good and the fan on the laser is running send them a video, which I have! I’m waiting to hear back.
I’m learning a lot because of this issue and I am becoming more and more positive that I need to flash grbl back onto the board… I had no real idea of what this means two days ago but basically it’s the equivalent of putting a program back onto a memory stick lol I’ve been learning about g code and letter commands but there is more to find out about like which type of mother board is used on the scupfun which I’ll be looking into today, hopefully while I’m at that I’ll find out more.
This isn’t going to be an easy thing to sort when things go wrong is it lol The more I know the better I’ll be at keeping it running :sparkling_heart:

UPDATE

it is a firmware issue. been sent advice on how and pointed towards reset button on motherboard… however, its missing! They said they will replace for me but how frustrating.

I’d post pictures but don’t think its possible on here

Sounds like you are making progress. But like you said, knowing more is better.

It reset without it! I’ve had to reset it every time I forget to do the sequence too but at least I don’t need to take it apart to reset it.
I’ve made a few cuts now

Thank you for your support :sparkling_heart:

That’s normal. My mainboards of that series also don’t have that button. It also not required at all, it doesn’t reset anything  It just reboots the controller.

Great that it’s working now. But what do you mean by you need to reset it every time now?

USB Ports are dynamically assigned and they’re somewhat ‘First come, First served’. They do seem to move by themselves.

Wireless IP addresses also seem to jump around. My MKS-DLC32 will pick a new IP address occasionally - then I have to change the Device Profile in LightBurn to reconnect.

If you have a link to the firmware update I’d like to grab a copy just in case.
