For y'all's amusement

So, my computer kinda died, as in ate the hard drive. It’s always been a bit flakey from day 1 when it was my primary computer, but it worked well enough. And then I came home from work to find a no OS found message on the screen. Took a few days before I could get to dealing with it, and… I don’t think computers are supposed to sound like that when booting, especially thin clients.
Well, that means bumping project new computer ahead. Of course that means a bad idea becomes a fiasco, right? Of course it does, I mean the new one doesn’t have built in sound, WiFi or Bluetooth, so that means running an Ethernet cable across the room over head, 2.4G trackball, wired keyboard and for sound… Well, still gotta figure that one out. And then there’s the fun fact that the computer I wanted to use (it’s prettier), is too short and requires a special custom VESA adapter, so I had to scramble to get the other one set up.

Yes, I need to clean the laser up, haven’t used it in months, been focusing on other business lines. But, y’all prolly want to know what the computer is? Well, you can see it in the pic, it’s a POSiFlex 3915, which is a restaurant terminal, the kind of thing waitstaff use to send your order to the kitchen. With a 2Ghz Celeron J1900, 1.8GiB of memory and a 128GB EMMC drive, it’s not exactly a performance machine, but it’ll get the job done. Yep, what you see on the monitor stand is the whole system.

So, whoever thought they’d see a restaurant terminal running a laser? Now I just have to find a use for the card reader… this can’t possibly end in disaster, can it?
