Frustrating laser file malfunction

@Alphonse: I tend to start a job from the computer. Thanks for your advice!

I have a PI 4 kit on order from the rainforest company, and will report back when that installation is done.

Thanks to everybody for your helpful input so far, it is much appreciated!

Ok guys, we are in business and I owe you each a beer!

I set up the laser via ethernet cable, then cut a whole bunch of files and had absolutely zero file malfunctions! I can’t believe what a difference a simple cable made, and am trusting my laser again in stead of constantly fearing that the next cut will spew forth rubbish.

Master Yoda’s Pi should arrive within the next week or two, then we’re really gonna be cooking!

I struggled with usb for about a week, if that…

Your fee is photos of your assembly and finished item

Have fun…

He he, I think I may be able to manage that! Thanks for all your kind help.

I received and prepared the Pi 4 kit, will test it this weekend and report back, but I have no doubt that it will work as advertised.

I don’t remember seeing it the documentation, but suggest you bind the PI MAC address to a unique router IP. When you have a power failure, a reboot and sometimes just the way units request a new IP (renews it’s lease) the PI can end up on a different IP address on your network.

Meaning Lightburn can’t find it without going into the devices and and changing it there.

Most modern router will allow you to bind an IP address to a MAC address. The prevents the issued IP from changing.

On my Linksys router, it’s simple… log into the router, on mine, I chose network map and it shows all connected devices… click on the device and select edit dhcp reservations, which is were you bind the mac and ip addresses… On the right is the reservations list, it’s already populated, all you have to do is click save …

Have fun…

Hi Jack

Thanks for the heads up, I am sure it will come in handy!

After reading all your brilliant advice, I thought I’d find a picture of what you just maybe, possibly look like…

PS: As is typical for most older geezers, I had to go search for the difference between an IP address and a MAC address.
We live, we learn…

When a new device gets access to a network, they usually don’t have an IP address… They depend on the DCHP of the router to supply an IP for the local lan.

When it sends it’s packet, it’s IP is set to 255 as an indicator to the dhcp server that it needs to supply the device an IP. When it returns the new IP to the device the only unique part of the packet is the MAC address.

Each device has a separate MAC address… This is how devices are tracked. When you wonder by a wifi connection it can report your MAC address to a data base and allow you to be tracked or followed… simple eh?

Thanks for the photo

That’s all waaaay above my pay grade, but then again I guess I had it comingšŸ¤—

Thank again for all your advice and input, much appreciated.

Jack

I have installed the PI4, not without issues (required the wifi.txt file in the boot drive) and have reserved a specific IP for the Lightburn Bridge MAC on the wifi network as you have suggested.

My files are successfully loading to the laser via the bridge, I just need to do some test cuts- to be sure to be sure you see?

Thanks again for your and everybody else’s valuable advice.

I’ll let Yoda have the last word…
