Hi. Just trying this 30 day trial with lightburn. Just wanted to make a simple test. I made a happy face. I created gcode with the (nc). Saved it on usb and took it over to snapmaker machine. It did do something. Just a line that would go back and forth. Didn’t change just back and forth in the same place. Definitely not a circle.
I’m missing something?
Is there a final step before creating gcode like “object to path” or idk. I tried a bunch of stuff.
I need to adjust settings?? Well not going to get lightburn if I can’t figure it out haha
You’re probably generating the wrong type of gcode for your machine… I’m not up on this, but they are not all the same and I’m know little about your machine…
The worst thing you could do is not buy Lightburn… It’s the only laser program… I’m sure it’s more than likely not configured properly…
I’m not sure if I’m following. Do you mean USB flash drive? In any case, I assume you configured a device in LightBurn to be able to generate the gcode.
If LightBurn does not detect the device type then yes, you’d have to put in the specs… It’s not much though:
Device type: Snapmaker
Auto-home: Your choice
Origin: Is origin on your device bottom-left? If so, set accordingly
Work Area: enter the width and height of your bed
Yes i mean flashdrive. I did input the workspace size etc. the laser works with Luban generated gcodes.
i will attach the file. i’m not the greatest tech wise either, so thats fun. happy.txt (191.9 KB)
I don’t see anything fundamentally wrong with the gcode.
This is what is shown in LightBurn if brought back in:
Did you try running this file on your machine?
There was a different Snapmaker user who had issues with laser power not modulating but found that it was an issue with the latest firmware. Going back to an older firmware resolved that.
This sounds different but curious if it could also be a firmware issue.
One thing to try is changing from “Current Position” to “Absolute Coords” as the Start From mode in Laser window.
I did have problems at first the laser was going far back right corner and running off the board. It was just going back and forth also. I changed it to be in the middle again. Thinking I solved it. Thanks for the ideas though. Maybe I’ll try something easier.
I don’t remember the setting the first time I tried. I am on user settings to be in the Center. The first time I tried I didn’t change any default settings. The laser head went to the far back of the workspace off the right hand side. That when I put user settings to be Center. I created a “happy face” and the laser was now in the Center but it was just going back and forth makings straight line across instead on making a circle. I will try a simple shape on absolute coords. The snapmaker also didn’t show a preview of the print which made me think it wasn’t reading gcode properly as well.
I believe the Snapmaker requires a special Snapmaker specific header to be placed into the gcode to provide a thumbnail. LightBurn doesn’t create this.
I’d suggest trying very simple designs to see if you can narrow down the issue.
Perhaps a square 10x10 mm outline, then the same square but filled, etc.
Ok. It worked. I cannot use absolute coords it goes out to lunch. But user settings and current position work. I did manage to make simple shapes so I think it will be ok. Thanks for the help
