Grayscale image on flat glass

I did some grayscale images on glass with my diode laser using a black paint, negative image and backlight. Worked perfect… I ‘hung up’ my diode laser (literally - hanging on the shop wall) when I got the CO2 because of space and time (that sounds like a line from a cheap SciFi movie… but I digress).

Doing some googling and looking through this forum - I’m thinking that the ‘main’ (common… accepted…) way to engrave on glass with a CO2 laser is - engrave on glass… no need for black paint. Would that be the best advice? Of all the videos and comments I read - I only saw one video where the operator used black paint with a CO2.

Thanks in advance for yet again, the large resource of info ya’ll are!

IR is blocked by glass so you can damage it with a co2 laser.

I’ve done a number of beer mugs and glasses, one of these days I’ll take some photos before I give them away

Get some steel wool and rub the image to ensure all the glass shards have been knocked off so they don’t end up in someones finger.

I do backside of mirrors and paint them… Might be able to do it with a diode, but I’ve done it quite a while with the co2…

These are 12x12" tile type mirrors… engrave the back off them then paint them… The one under the mayan-vader is before it’s painted.

Have fun and post some of your work
