Has anyone used Lightburn with a Nextwave Shark CNC with their 7 watt laser?

I have the Nextwave Shark HD 500 with a 7 watt laser attachment. Does anyone know if Lightburn might be compatible?

The controller takes G-Code but I have no idea of how it would work.

TIA,
Richard

I’m not familiar with that particular machine.

After a quick search it doesn’t appear to be running a commonly used controller currently supported by LightBurn.

However, if it runs g-code it can likely be made to work with LightBurn using the Custom g-code generator that will be available in release 1.5.

Based on a look at the manual for the CNC it looks like computer control is possible. If it’s using standard serial connection it may be possible that you could get LightBurn to control the CNC directly but it’s not likely to be natively supported.

Do you run offline today or do you have a computer connected to the machine?

Thanks for your help!

Vcarve Pro saves a project to a USB drive in g-code. Then you plug the usb into the controller, zero out all axis, and pick the file to run. There’s no serial connection.

The pendant/controller needs to be told to use the laser, So I have no idea if Lightburn g-code would work. My guess is that I’d have to modify the Lightburn g-code in some way to make it compatible once it can generate it.

I’m not sure I’d have the time or patience for that.

Thanks much!

Richard

1.5 includes a custom g-code generator. You configure it once and it should hold for all jobs. If you’re already transferring g-code to USB then it’s likely this will work for you.

You could experiment with this using the trial. Just make sure you get the public beta as it’s only available from 1.5 forward.

Thanks, will do!
