have advanced Z-axis management for engravers like NEJE 4 Max

Hello, I have a NEJE 4 Max, and I can’t find much that allows me to easily manage the Z axis, as it might be used on a 3D printer. I’d like to be able to better manage the between lines (for a felt-tip drawing or a vynil cut) and to be able to adjust the level of upstroke, and if you want upstrokes, a bit like doing a slicer for 3D printing. The difference here is that it’s a physical tool.

Thank you in advance for all your hard work.

A laser is a fixed-focus device and usually has no Z travel, but I see the NEJE Max4 is different.I can only think of two applications for Z axis motion: [1] Multiple passes stepping down on each pass to burn thru thick materials, and [2] An attempt to create a 3D burn into a material like wood.

If I read correctly, you are wanting to turn your laser into a pen plotter and use Lightburn to control it. Is this correct?

Indeed, the NEJE 4 Max is special. Firstly, the head I have (A40640 12w) is not a focus fix, but adjustable, but in the options and accessories, there’s a pen for plotting, a bit like a plotter, but also cutters for decorating vinyl, so you can make markings. It’s for these options that I’d like to be able to manage the Z axis more finely. For cutting with unwrapping at each pass, we’re already doing very well with the current options.

I don’t think LB, at this time, can give you incremental control of the Z axis like CAD/CAM software. However I think I read that they are considering this as a furure enhancement. Maybe @LightBurn can clarify this statement.
