HELP NEEDED! Connection lost

Hello all

Recently I upgraded my Sculpfun S9 to Atomstack A40, both with air assist.

With Sculpfun S9 I had some USB connection drops during engraving but it always proceeded so I didnt care a lot. Unfortunately with Atomstack I have more connection losses and job doesn’t proceed once the console start showing some errors. Can someone please have a look and help me out?

Thank you!

Oh yeah, I am not sure yet but I guess there might be some interference with the air assist (compressor)… I am trying now with power supply being disconnected from the air assist and then I have no errors (so far so good…)

Waiting for connection…

Grbl ‘$’ command cannot be used unless Grbl is IDLE. Ensures smooth operation during a job.

This is often symptoms of a bad USB cable. Can you purchase one that is shielded and has the noise suppressor ferrite on it? It will cost more, but is much better for the connection.

Update: it seems I can confirm if the air assist is not connected or on low power it doesnt have this error. The power supply cable from the air assist is connected to the laser controlboard itself, should I buy an external 12V power supply for the air assist to avoid this issue?

You would need more than that. You would need to add a relay to switch the air pump on and off.

Sounds like your air pump is controlled like my Sculpfun SF-A9. No Air Assist is low output, and Air Assist on is high output. If you want Hi/Lo operation, that will require more electronics. being fed by the original air pump power source.

I already thought about this if I have an issue with my air pump. Microcontroller with a voltage regulator board, and a relay module.

I have ordered a new cable and ferrite components to attach to the cable. lets hope it works!

thank you so much! I have added noise suppressor ferrite to the cables and now it’s working fine.
