Hi I’m super new to this and still learning, but I am currently stuck on a project right now. I have uploaded an image that I am trying to pull apart into several groups. So I figured out how to ungroup and make the orange/brown outline set to cut. But then I need to take all of the purple lines and do an engraving. But I can only get it to take the purple area set to engrave the reverse way? It’s engraving the white sections in-between the purple lines. How do I get it to engrave the lines and not the sections? Also, I added a line on the top of the green section, but I don’t know how to make that line thicker? Is there a way to draw and line and change the thickness?
Hi Jessica,
Can you upload some screen shots of your Cuts / Layer window as well screen shots of the Cut Settings Editor? That will help a lot in troubleshooting your problem.
Thanks!
I am new at this too, but maybe i can at least help with your line weight problem. If you highlight the line, then use the offset tool to create a line width that you like. Delete the original line and move the offset to a fill layer. Hope it helps.
Another suggestion, find the La. Hobby Guy on youtube and watch his tutorials. Using the offset tool for your hatch lines, then using the bolean tool to join them may solve your other issue? Good luck.
It looks like layer 3 (the green color) is set to fill, so that much makes sense. Take Brad’s advice and check out the LA Hobby Guy on youTube as well as his web site lahobbyguy.com. TONS of advice there.
If you want to engrave the purple line themselves, you would actually use the cut function, not engrave. Just don’t set the power high enough to cut through the object. To make the top line thicker, just use a narrow rectangle and set it to fill. Then you can make this line as thick as you want.
Thank you!
I will for sure check him out! Thanks!
