Help or sugestion with burn marks

Hello 2 all

Few days ago I got Chinese co2 laser 700x500 130w power.Laser is working fine but I have some “problem” with burn marks.Let me start from beginning.Laser head have air nozzle 4mm caliber (bottom) and after I did mirrors alignment and bed leveling I try to cut some HDF board 3mm.Cutting was great but top of working piece was dirty (from smoke).I connect air compressor with solenoid valve and try again.Result was little better but still dirty.Focus lens was 50.8 and there was like 15+ mm gap from bottom of nozzle to work piece so I change lens to 38.1.Result was much better but still dirty.I give friend drawing and he made me some kind of insertion peace where I change air nozzle caliber from 4mm to 2mm.Now every time when laser start to cut there is burn mark and after that is great untill laser move to another object and start cutting.I know something is wrong because if I use 60 PSI working piece is 100% clean. On another co2 Chinese laser with 80W I cut same material with 7-10 psi for clean surface. So is it normal for 130W laser to leave burn marks or I miss something?

I order new air nozzle from China but need to wait 20 days for deliver.Any sugestion what I should try until new nozzle arrive?I use honeycomb table.

this is with 40-45 PSI

EDIT: Sorry about my English

You could put masking tape over the areas to be cut to stop the burn marks.

I can but board is 600x400mm and I cut like 100+ boards daily

If it’s a shape like the circle, you can apply a ‘lead in’ to have it start inside the circle. The makes the burn on the scrap, assuming you want the hole and not the cutout… you can select either.

Thanks, didnt know about that. This might be problem for that

The software is generally pretty smart and figures out what is inside and outside of an object.

There is a lot of great knowledge here, so make use of it. Post the .lbrn2 file (or a few other types) by dropping on the reply window or using the upload icon download-icon-lightburn

Good luck

I know but look like I have some mechanic problem or something else because just now I noticed laser head is hot (near mirror) while other 2 mirrors are cold.Gonna look into it tomorrow

It could only be that way if it’s dirty or misaligned…

Good luck…

After 9 days and 2 days of frustration finally figured out problem. Beam was centered on all positions but didnt hit mirrors at 90 degree.Laser tube should go down for 2.5mm but Chinese engineer didnt install laser tube bracket with adjust screw, they weld metal tube holder to frame :rage:
So I remove the head and place under 2.5 mm thick hdf board. After that head isnt hot and cut is cleaner
F6 tube at 85% power and 52 speed (25mA) and cut HDF board 3mm like butter

Yep, that’s why a lot of us have replaced the factory one with a ‘lightweight’ head from a Russ Sadler design.

Might want to thing about it for your next upgrade.

Good luck
