Help with image engraving diode laser

I’ve been struggling with a couple of 5500mW diode lasers that I was convinced were defective. I have tried burning some images on tile and wood with no results. It appeared the laser was not outputting the actual percent of power and not burning anything, even at 100% power. I thought maybe something was wrong with LB and I have LaserGRBL, so tried that. Well, it didn’t help with images, but I stumbled on a try at a raster engraving and got the full effect from the laser.

That prompted a couple of tests, but it seems I’m just not able to burn an image using Da Big Gimpin plugin which sets the layer at image and yes, before you ask, my laser is focused properly and I’ve got the layer set to pass-through. The image I’ve been working with were set up with GIMP and DBG using 600 DPI and 100x100 size. I’m wondering if the DPI is too high. Also setting a line interval to 0.110mm.

I am at a loss as to what settings in LightBurn I might be missing or have wrong. $30=1000 and I’ve tried numerous Speed/Power settings with no good results.

Anyone have an idea what I’m doing wrong? Working on Christmas gifts and have orders for some custom burns for Christmas gifts, so I really want to get this going.

Is your S value max in LB also 1000?

Yes. I have a run going with a 200 DPI image running now. Maybe I’m on to something.

Which is it? It can’t be both? Note below, when ‘Pass-Through’ is set ON (green), you will see that the ‘Line Interval’ / ‘DPI’ for this image is grayed-out. You cannot set both concurrently so not sure what you are referencing here.

The DPI is set via Da Big Gimpin’ and I’m using pass-through in LightBurn. I did make a good burn yesterday that needs a bit of tweaking. I’m wondering what DPI would be “best” to set in GIMP/Da Big Gimpin’ to make the best burn. I know higher DPI is not good according to Oz, but how much is just enough? LOL
