Help with photo engraving – Sculpfun S30 Pro Max 20W

Hello everyone,

I’m using a Sculpfun S30 Pro Max (20W) with a rotary roller, and I’m having trouble engraving portraits/photos. No matter what settings I try, the results are either too dark, too light, or I lose most of the details.

Could you please advise me on:

the best way to prepare photos (LightBurn only, or also using external software like Photoshop/Gimp),

recommended image resolution,

dithering / grayscale settings,

speed and power for wood (and for other materials, if possible).

If someone has a step-by-step workflow or example settings for this machine, it would really help me improve.

Thanks a lot in advance!

You have chosen the hardest thing you can do with lasers. All we can do is recommend you research everything you can find about laser image engraving. Here are couple of items to get you started…

Do not get discouraged. Doing images involves a lot of experimentation and testing. I have seen some amazing work with a 20w laser.
