I just wanted to share my first 3D relief carving test in MDF with MillMage Pro.
The Pro version works perfectly for me, and I’m really happy with the result. The workflow was smooth, the toolpaths were generated correctly, and the final carving came out much better than I expected for a first try.
A big thank you to the MillMage team for this great software. It’s a real pleasure to use!
Here is the final result of my first 3D relief carving test with MillMage Pro
I used MDF only for testing, so the stain does not look very nice because MDF absorbs it unevenly. But the goal was mainly to test the new Pro version before making the final piece in basswood.
I use a spring-loaded diamond drag engraver with the spindle turned off. The tool doesn’t rotate; the spring maintains constant pressure against the aluminum surface, which produces a very consistent engraving depth and a clean finish.
A little project made with MillMage: a CNC-machined aluminum home automation remote control, with an OLED display and stainless-steel push buttons.
I still need to finish the wiring and electronics, but I’m really happy with how it turned out. MillMage is becoming more and more enjoyable to use for this kind of project.
Work in progress on a new CNC project made with MillMage.
The idea is to build a Nagra-inspired audio streamer with a fully machined aluminium front panel, decorative reels, physical controls and a display. At the moment I am mainly working on the mechanical design and machining of the front panels and reels.
It is still an early prototype, so several details will change as the project progresses, especially around the screen and controls.
Very happy with how the aluminium parts are turning out so far — MillMage has been really useful for preparing and machining the different elements.
