Your D1 likely does have switches [1] because it cannot Home without them, and [2] they might be buried inside the frame and hard to see.
If that board is where the control box was, then that is the Front-Left corner and the Home position. That is where it should go when it is trying to Home. If it does not, then you will have to fix it by changing the $23 GRBL parameter. That is best done using the Machine Settings window.
If it goes to that corner and fails to complete the Home cycle, then make sure it can reach the limit switches. Also make sure you did not plug Y into the X socket on the controller board. Because you also relocated the control box, make sure there are no broken wires or poor crimps in the wiring pins.
Get Home working and then come back for the next step, Jog direction.

- Trolley and gantry rapid move towards the switches.
- When the switches are hit, the machine will stop and reverse. First Zaxis must complete if installed, then X and Y. It may not reverse X or Y until both switches are found for X and Y.
- The machine will pull off the switches slowly until the switches open.
- The machine will reverse back onto the switches very slowly until the switches close.
- The machine will reverse and pull off the switches slowly until they open.
- The controller establishes this as the Home position. It is usually shown as something very close to 0,0 as the position if the controller is set for the first quadrant. If it shows large numbers, this can be changed with the G10 command.
There is no other version of the Home cycle. If you have limit switches, this is how it should work.
