I bought the laser bundle that has the "Y: axes extension rails to make it 850mm by 375mm and I got 2 limit switches included and installed. I am having issues getting connected to the laptop and WIFI and serial. The videos that I have found so far have not solved it and I thought maybe someone here had some experience or knowledge to help?
The only experience that I have is with the XTool D1 Non-Pro that I purchased in 2022.
I have the newest version of LB installed. I think I have solved one issue being the laser head would try to move into the rails on start up. It doesn’t do that any longer but I may not have correct boundaries dialed in?
It seemed like the XTool was a lot easier than this to get started and I didn’t have any experience at all then. Any help would be awesome and I will try to provide any information and screen shots to help. Thank you in advance!
Windows 11 Longer Ray 5 20 watt with the Y axes extension installed.
- Forget WIFI. Use USB or Ethernet.
- Forget Find My Laser. Use the Manual Device setup. It is dirt simple and works most of the time.
- If your workspace is X=375 and Y=850, I would set GRBL parameter $130=370 and $131=840. Even less if it hits the rails. That 20w head is huge compared to the D1.
- Make sure everything is working in this order: Home, Jog, and travel limits. Once these are functioning properly, then can you try a program. I recommend using Absolute Coords always for now.
Thank you. I will look at these and see what I can do with it. I prefer Absolute too so no worries there. Thank you again.
Question, can you put a link or a picture where to set the so I can make sure that everything is right please?
Which one? Specific questions would help get specific answers.
Im sorry, I thought I put HOME. My bad.
The Laser is throwing a code if I move in the Y direction on one computer and the other Y direction on the other computer. I do not have something right the in settings or a slight possibility that something is wrong with the machine. Probably settings.
Ok, we will do it by the numbers:
- I think there is a .lbdev file for the D1. Go here for details: xTool D1 Pro lbdev file and CH340 Driver
- Tell us if this clears up your problems.
I already have it on the computers because of having the Xtool D1. But I will double check and hook back up to the Longer Ray.
It is still giving the code. That is all I can do tonight. If you have any other steps I will try hem tomorrow. Thank you.
I know you know, but do you mind sharing the code with us?
I will in a little while. I’m heading to an appointment. I was getting to tired to continue last night and called it quits for the night.
I’ll screenshot the codes and the settings to get them looked over.
I wonder if it would be best to delete that machine and start from the beginning with it?
I got sidetracked here. I forgot it was the Longer machine with the issue.
I would guess the Longer Ray 5 would not need a .lbdev file, but somebody correct me if I am wrong.
Yes, no harm in deleting the Longer device and doing a Manual setup. Just be sure to select GRBL without any additional characters attached. The Manual method is quick and simple.
Thank you. Sidetracked seems to be my main track the past week lol. I just think a fresh start might be helpful. I will go do that.
This is after I deleted the previous setup and did it manually. It is not jogging and when you hit home it runs to the lower left corner by the controller and crashes into the rails.
Does it have limit switches, and where are they located?
I have asked someone with Longer for some help with the location of the switches but I am waiting for the answers.
I know something has to be moved. What I don’t understand is why it stops sometimes in the middle of the bed.
I see limit switches, but it is difficult to tell where they are located, and whether it is 2 or 4 of them. The lower (front) left is a common location for them.
Those are mechanical, so you will hear them click when actuated. With power off, manually move the laser to the front left and see if you can hear them click. If not, try the other corners one at a time.
We need to know which corner should be the Home corner. Until we know that, it will be difficult to proceed.
Just out of curosity, did you assemble the machine and install the limit switches?
This first pic is the Y axes limit switch. the Luan on the right is where I removed the control box to be outside of the enclosure. It is mounted right outside of the enclosure. the limit switch is clicking. Yes I unboxed and built it with the extended Y axes rails.
I have contacted Longer again trying to get any help from their side. My XTool D1 does not have limit switches and it homes and knows where to go. That is the only experience that I have so this is strange to me. Thanks for helping out what you can.
