Home button throws errors

Hi there. I’m a new user to Lightburn (and am new to laser engraving).

I haven’t been able to get the ‘Home’ button to work and when I set origin it seems to change randomly as I finished jobs or move the laser head. I’ve been getting around this by using the setting ‘Start from Current Position’ in the laser panel. See attached image for the console message.

I’m running eleksmaker software and GRBL.

Hi Aubrey, The error displayed in your console is from grbl and is listed as:

Error 5: Setting disabled Homing cycle failure. Homing is not enabled via settings.

This indicates that you do not have homing set correctly in your grbl settings.

$24 - Homing feed, mm/min
The homing cycle first searches for the limit switches at a higher seek rate, and after it finds them, it moves at a slower feed rate to home into the precise location of machine zero. Homing feed rate is that slower feed rate. Set this to whatever rate value that provides repeatable and precise machine zero locating.

What do you have set in grbl? Type $$ then hit Enter for your current settings. (note that the console window is scrollable so you can review the entire settings displayed.)

Hi Rick, when I enter $$ I get the following:

I notice you are running an older version of grbl so you should choose the GRBL-M3 device in LightBurn. Make sure to set the LightBurn device settings (S Max) to match your GRBL setting ($30). Ideally, you would upgrade to GRBL 1.1f and then use the GRBL device.

Here is another great resource for your setup.

As another member previously posted, “Scroll down to the bottom “operating instructions” and follow that. Once you have it working in elekscam, it should work in LightBurn. Follow the instructions to the letter and that will get you up and running…”

Additionally, there is a group for these types of machines on Facebook and quite a few people there use LightBurn, so they would be able to advise you more. https://www.facebook.com/groups/107222596696733/
