Homing fail. Could not find limit switch within search distance. Defined as 1.5 * max travel on search and 5 * pulloff on locate phases

Help please..
I have a new Longer Ray5 laser, with limit switches and 400x850 work area. It will engrave the 3 very small files that came with the laser with no problem. I have downloaded several engrave and cut files and those stop about 1/3 of the way thru every time. The laser just powers off.
I have several files downloaded and I created in Lightburn. When I run those in Lightburn, the laser moves to the first cut area, fires for about 1 second, then stops and shows an error. Usually followed by lost connection and limit switch error.

  1. Checked all connectors and all are fully seated
  2. Laser homes fine every time, limit switches click nicely
  3. Reinstalled Lightburn
  4. Reinstalled firmware for laser and limit switches
  5. I have all the same issues

Any suggestions? I’m at a dead end..
    Thanks

Somehow you turned one problem into two. Your first images show that Homing succeeded. Lightburn sends a $H to the controller. After that, it is all laser and nothing to do with Lightburn. You can test by using the Console window to send the command yourself.

Did you change any GRBL parameters or move any wiring?

In your second image, I see a “Connection lost” message. Did this issue go away?

Thanks for the reply.
Homing has always worked, either from the touchscreen on the laser or Lightburn. It always goes to the home position every time.
I changed the Y-axis to 850 to match the extended frame.
I did replace the harness for the limit switches. I did that when I assembled the laser out of the box. Other than that I haven’t messed with them.
I still get a connection lost error. In Lightburn, it always happens after the laser moves from home position and begins to fire. As soon as that happens I get the error.
When I just have the memory card in the laser, it usually gets about 1/3 of the way through a project and it just shuts off, then back on. It never goes to home after it resets.

This eliminates the USB and Lightburn. Try running with less power and lower speed. The intent is to put less of a load on the power supply. If it completes, I think you found your culprit.

This sounds like a power supply issue. As Mike suggested, try to run the job at 0.1% power or so, if this does not stop, the power supply is probably too weak.

Ok. I ordered a replacement power supply from Amazon and will be there when I get home. I’ll let you know the outcome.
Thank you.

You guys rock! Replaced the power supply and everything works as it should. I appreciate the fast responses. Thank you.
