How can I make a word into a shape or path so it will cut in another instance of lightburn on a machine that doesn't have that font

Hi All! I designed a file that includes words, in a lightburn file on my Mac, but when I upload it to my PC to cut it the word is plain text. Is there a way to make the font a path or shape on my mac so it will cut on my other machine that doesn’t have the same font?

2 options:

  1. in newer versions of LightBurn, a fallback path for the font is automatically created so that even if you open the file on a computer without that font installed will show you a correct shape.
  2. convert the font to path by selecting the text, then Edit->Convert to Path

How do I make the first scenario you mention be so. I designed in lightburn on my Mac with an older version of Lightburn, but when imported into Lightburn on my new machine the word is not a script font it is a generic text font.

Also, there is not an option on the machine I designed with to convert the text to path. The option is grayed out.

It will need to be designed in at least version 1.1.00. I’m not certain if the opening machine also needs to be on 1.1.00 but I suspect that’s the case.

If the option is there then it should work. If it’s grayed out it means you haven’t met the conditions for the feature to be available.

Have you first selected the text to convert?

Can you take a screenshot of what you’re seeing?

I need the Pink font to cut exactly as it is on another machine.

That’s odd. Is the pink lettering actually LightBurn text in that screenshot? I would expect the Font information to be active if it were.

Are you able to upload the .lbrn file here for review? And is “Dulcelin” the correct font name?

Yes that is the correct name for the font.

It looks like you’ve already converted this to a path. Did you possibly try doing this twice not realizing you had already converted it the first time?

Try loading this on your target computer and see if it shows up correctly.

Not that I was aware of. Try loading the image?

Try loading the file. As I understand it you’re having a problem with transferring .lbrn files between computers where the target computer does not have one of the used fonts installed.

Correct me if my understanding is incorrect.

The easiest way would be to copy the font from machine A and install it on machine B, that’s what I do with my Mac and my Ubuntu computers.

At first reading I was under the impression that installation of the font was not an option but after rereading it based on Bernd’s comment that may not be the case.

If so, absolutely agree with Bernd here.
