We have a 60w CO2 laser just for making nameplates. I need a way to make a border around the tag. I was able to make it work by drawing rectangles .0312" inches around the tags, but it is so time consuming to design and engrave. Is there a faster way?
I can post pictures of what I am talking about, if it helps.
Pictures are worth a thousand words.
I put the tags in 1 picture, but I can separate them if you need me to. The top tag is one we got from an engraver before we got the laser. The middle one is one I made with no border. The bottom one is one I made with a border.
I like the border. It came out nice, but I had to create thin rectangles that I line up on each edge and engrave it. It took forever to get it right and tripled the engraving time.
Someone in another post mentioned ramping. Can I ramp just the edge? How do I do that?
You want a border inside your cut?
You should be able to do it with offset tool.
Adding a border can be done quickly using the ‘Offset’ tool. Would that work for what you are after?
‘Ramp’ is traditionally used with stamp making to reinforce lettering and offering support for thinner parts of the stamp.

It worked! That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you both so much. You saved me a ton of time.
