How do I open slicer for f360 in lightburn

Im creating slicer for f360 files, but they will not open in lightburn. Can anyone help?

Are you exporting to a supported file type?

PDF/AI, DXF, and SVG are the major supported import formats.

Slicer only has 2 export options, STL and OBJ. I am unable to open either one in lightburn.

So I’m trying to work this out. Lightburn will not open Slicer files. I have Fusion360. So Im trying to open my Slicer files in Fusion and convert to dxl. Its telling me I have to save to the cloud first, so this is what im trying to do at the moment.

So, upon further experimenting, Fusion only offers lightburn supported files in the paid version, I only have the free version. So more investigation needs to be done.

Ok , so Fusion360 will only convert if I pay for a subscription. So I tried a few file converters, 3Dpea and aspose, and they both got errors trying to convert to a dxf. I know Im making this much harder than it needs to be.

3Dpea will convert obj to dxf, but when I import it into lightburn nothing happens, I get a blank screen.

Can you explain what you’re trying to accomplish?

Im importing a stl from thingiverse

then I’m slicing it up in slicer, that turns into a obj

Now Im trying to open this obj file in lightburn.

I think @berainlb is asking what your end product is to be…

What file types does f360 export for the paid version?

How do you expect to get a 3d object from a 2d image?

:smile_cat:

I don’t think @bleumeany is starting with a 2D image. It seems to me that he has a 3D STL file downloaded from Thingiverse that he’s sliced into erm… slices. He’d then like to export the profile of each slice to DXF (or any other LB supported 2D vector format) for subsequent cutting out of ply or some flat material. He will then assemble the laser-cut slices back into a 3D object.

Then he’d need to export each layer in svg or dxf formats…

I have never used f360, but I have other cad programs.

I have a pump housing that I export the top and cut it out of acrylic. I export it in a dxf format.

:smile_cat:

That’s exactly what he’s attempting to do with Slicer for Fusion 360. I use F360 (as well as other CAD programs) but I’ve not used Slicer. I seem to remember it’s been deprecated and is no longer being developed by AutoDesk and according to @bleumeany you’re only able to export 2D formats (such as DXF etc) if you’re on a paid-for subscription to F360.

That’s :poop:

:smile_cat:

Yep!

I’m having a look around the web to see whether there’s any free way to do this. Perhaps there’s a way in Meshmixer.

I’ve used freecad for a long time… I think Autocad owns it now… I also run Linux, so there are less in the way of choices… unless you want to do the on-line thing.

:smile_cat:

Yes, I was thinking FreeCAD as well, I’m just having a look to see whether I can cut slices through a mesh. I didn’t think anyone ‘owned’ FreeCAD, isn’t it open source?

What’s the end goal?

Are you attempting to have a cut path for multiple flat shapes that you can then stack to create the spherical shape?

Or are you trying to use this for some sort of depth map for possibly 3d slicing?

We think this is what he wants to do…

:smile_cat:

My end goal is to have a cut path for multiple shapes so I can stack them to recreate the sphere.
