How do I remove these icons from the toolbar?

I have no need for these icons and would like to free up some space

You can’t remove them. For now, you’re stuck with them but it is a good idea that you can choose.
But you’re not alone go and add your vote on our feature request site.

I agree that the split marking icon and the camera tools icon isn’t needed by 90% of our customers.

If by “learned my lesson about suggesting changes” you’re referring to “adding full support for PDF editing”, you should understand that we prioritize things by level of difficulty, level of impact, and many other factors. Something that improves the overall usability for many people and isn’t hard to implement has a much higher chance of happening.
