How do I transfer my license to a new machine after exceeding allowable PCs?

With the end of life for windows 10 coming up in October, I had to replace my windows 10 machine with one running windows 11, but I got a notification that I have exceeded the allowable copies on my license. I use 2 laptops for my 2 lasers, and the 3rd one is always offline from the lasers as I use it strictly to edit my files to be transferred to one laptop mainly. The one I want to put the current license on is a back up machine.

Can this be done without having to buy another license?

A LightBurn license automatically comes with 3 seats, meaning you can activate it on three computers at one time. You can use our License Portal to view and remove activations on your key, freeing up activations in use on old or inoperable computers so you can activate on new ones.

As @bernd.dk identifies, you can use the License Portal to make adjustments to your seat allocations. Additionally, we have documentation covering this topic in detail available from our menu, top-right.

That should take you here:

Thank you both for this information. I’m a noob on this forum, and I should come here more often to get more great tips that are already here. Thank you for bearing with me, as I did look for this question to see if it was previously posted; but I didn’t see it. Nevertheless, this really takes a big load off of my mind. Now if I can transfer it without needing to go to the old computer first…

Thank you again. I followed the instructions, and it worked like a charm. I’m going to scrap the old computer once the updates will no longer work, it’s too much of a dinosaur to invest in more ram even using the server version of windows 11.

You asked nicely, so you got a nice answer
It’s great that you solved your problem. A tip for better maneuvering around here in this nice forum to find interesting posts and solutions, the magnifying glass up top right has an extended filter function and works quite smartly and precisely.

I have found Google does a great job indexing the forum. Type what you want to find and add Lightburn to the end. I do this when I can’t seem to choose the right search phrase.

Yes, asking nicely when the favors are mine; is only reasonable.

Thank you again. I really love Lightburn, and even though Laser GRBL is free; it doesn’t have 1/10th of the functions as Lightburn. I recommend this program to anyone wanting to do laser engraving/cutting.
