How do you sand the laser cut edges or do you just leave them as is?

See Topic. I tried sanding it with random sand paper but I noticed that I bring it out of its original shape by doing that. I just learned about the different kinds of sand papers, but I was wondering, if there is a better way to clean the brown/black edges first.

Air assist is very helpful here…

There are lot of speed/power combinations that will do the job, but like all machining there is a narrow area where this works the best. When I cut I adjust so a white cloth shows little to no debris when wiped on the cut area.

Good luck

I have air assist and a honeycomb. My front and back are perfectly clean. I am talking about the actual cutting sides, because I want to create something like this:

So I need to sand the sides. White cloth surely does not suffice here, does it?

Most of my products I wash with dish washer soap and a nail brush. Dry asap and even cork coasters lasered with images survive.

I’m referring to the cut edge.

If the machine is capable to cut the material there will be a power and speed setting that will give results that are night and day above the rest.

If you can wipe a white cloth on the cut and get virtually no ‘burnt’ debris, it’s a good cut.

It sounds like that’s what you want…?

Yes, kinda. I am still new to this so I might be wrong. It will probably still be tanned at least even when no debris comes off. Optimally I would want it to be the original light color, which is why I wanted to use sandpaper on it. But I wasnt aware that you could actually use water and soap to clean wood, maybe it only needs light sanding afterwards.

The better the speed and power are dialed in, the better, cleaner cut you will have…

Having stated that, you are burning the wood, so you can’t get a cut that is clean like a saw would make… Sorry about that…

:smile_cat:

Yes, I was not assuming you could have a cut like a saw, that is why I was asking how to sand it nicely.
