How does it decide how to optimize the job

My path is:
PDF to Illustrator to SVG to Lightburn to BossLaser1420

Usually, it burns the text in long rows. This makes sense, because every time the head turns around to go the other way, it wastes time.

But this job is doing only one inch wide swaths!

Is there a way to talk to the controller and get it to be smarter?

You have flood-fill enabled on your Fill layer. Disable that and retest.
