I want to etch a spiral music saying to the top of my piano stool. I want to leave markings as is. Should I clean it a bit with liquid soap before etching?
Lucie doesn’t get me wrong, but I won’t engrave or paint anything on this stool. Some things become old and beautiful with traces of use by people who have used them a lot, these are memories. In my workshop I have a three-legged stool from my father-in-law’s blacksmith’s workshop. I loved this man and will never “decorate” this chair.
If you are going to make the chair anyway, it will probably have to be sanded nicely
Thanks, I purchased this some years back for under $5.00 (usually don’t indulge on myself for more than that) but I love it. I’ve decided to etch the underneath of the seat; I don’t know what with…
I wouldnt think you need to do anything but brush the dirt away before engraving. You could use mineral spirits if you really wanted to.
For metal and glass engraving, the black color is intentionally painted to absorb LASER better. And then it is removed using acetone, gasoline (recommended solvant for particilar color).
For wood it is a question. If you want to paint nice image the colored parts would disturb after engraving. I would prefer sandpaper to cleanup a surface and after engraving to use colorless paint.
Thank you, just going with brushing the dirt away.
