How to determine spot size on CO2

If you haven’t watched the Laser Everything video on photo engraving, you should. I recommend it to anyone with a laser. It’d one on a laser, but it works for all lasers and all materials.

One of the earlier posts I suggested to watch the video at about 1:40 in, post 7. He uses no lens and you can see the difference, in kerf, that speed makes. It’s the Gaussian power distribution across the beam that causes this.

A lens only makes the whole thing smaller… If you interval is excellent at speed X, it might not be right at 2 * X speed or X / 2… in other words, with most materials this occurs with a speed change with or without a lens… You will have to see how/if it effects you. Just keep it in mind.

Make sense?

Good luck
