How to edit an outline - part 2

Good morning. In case you read or contributed to my last How to edit an outline, thanks again, and I’ve gotten a bit further with my project. I just seems like I need to re-learn a bunch of stuff when I don’t use the app as often as I should. Anyway, everything works in being able to cut out the edited outlines, I can make the offsets with no problems and save a .gcode file. What’s happening is when I run the laser to make a cutout of my outline, the cutter does it’s job but not smoothly. As the laser makes it’s movements, the laser is turned on and off seemingly at each point instead of remaining ON through the entire cut. I appear to be overlooking the setting to make this work. I’ll go through the Lightburn docs and the docs for the cutter setup again but I’m looking for some guidance for this. The file is saved to a .gcode and then fed through DrufelCNC to a Genmitsu CNC modified with an Endurance 10w laser head. I’ve used it in the past to cut out gaskets I’ve designed with Lightburn, but this laser ON/OFF issue escapes me this time.
Thanks,
Tony

OK, looking more closely at the Preview it shows the cut taking place in very small segments with the laser ON and OFF at each segment. The design doesn’t show the segments but the Preview does show them. I guess the question is how to close the design so there is one continuous line or cut.

Make sure that “Perforation mode” is not enabled in the Cut setting.

Thanks, I know where to find the setting and I’m sure this is the problem but for some reason I can no longer get into the Print and Cut panel as I can’t get past Set First Target Position and Unable to Query the Current Position of the Laser. This function worked earlier today. My machine is defined but not connected and I’ve tried some changes that were in some recommendations I’ve found, but no luck.

Perforation mode is not related to Print and Cut in any way. Perforation mode is set in the Cut layer settings.

You hadn’t previously mentioned Print and Cut. Are you having an issue with it? Note that you must be connected to the machine for Print and Cut to work correctly. If you are saving gcode and running the CNC offline then there’s no practical way to use Print and Cut.

I’ll browse through the manual again, but the way it reads to me is if there is a device defined but not connected, then the Print and Cut panel should appear and the Set Target *** Position should also work. Maybe I’m reading it incorrectly but its been working for me yesterday, I haven’t had any issue with it in the past and now I have this issue. Something changed that I’m unable to identify. I can no longer get the cut panel or the panel showing the layers to display. I have upgraded the program so maybe there’s been a change. Checking in to that.

What are you attempting to achieve using Print and Cut?

Not sure, but apparently I’ve confused the Print and Cut panel with the Cuts/Layers panel. I have the Cuts/Layers option back after correcting that configuration. I either switched it off while fumbling around, or it got disabled during an update. Anyway, I’m back where I should be, Perforation turned off and it won’t be till later today to try the laser cut. I’m sure it will work. Next up is to swap the laser head with a milling head to see if I can carve the pattern. The machine has already been modified to make the swap.

Thanks for the input and patience.

Tony
