Hi, I want to engrave an image and then cut a path around it. Im not sure how to set up the file in illustrator. Do I want to export a dxf with paths? Or do I export an image file and a path file separately? Im new to Lightburn. Thanks!
If LightBurn is a new program for you, it is necessary to start learning the program from scratch. There is no secret path that will save you this step. But, the good news is, LightBurn has a very nice and structured manual/user guide and there are many many YT videos, from and about LB.
A little tip, I would recommend starting with simple things and using leftovers/waste materials you can throw away along the way when testing your skills and the machine’s capabilities.
If you want to engrave and cut, set the engrave in Illustrator to a black fill, and set the cut to a red stroke. Don’t export DXF. You can copy and paste between Illustrator and Lightburn, or you can import the AI file into Lightburn.
Thanks! Any suggestions on the fill settings? Speed, power, liner interval? Im loving Lightburn!
Those things depend upon your laser’s power and the thickness of the material you’re using. This is where scrap - as mentioned above - is critical.
