How to get rid of these laser lines?

I made this peace sign, but all of my engravings have these lines running across them and it looks very weird. Is there any way to fix this?

This is a common occurrence.
The laser is being left on when the the machine is travelling or traversing.

It’s important to let a CNC machine spindle run a little bit while traversing but a laser should shut off.

An LC400 looks like this GRBL controlled device from TronHoo

Open the Console window in LightBurn and enter the following:
$$
then press enter.

I’m expecting that $32=0 in that report.
In the console window type the following:
$32=1
then press enter.

Type $$ to ensure that the setting changed and then retest. You should be good at that point.

Please report back either way as this could help the next person.

It didn’t work now the laser is to weak to engrave anything. What is going on?

Copy and paste that $$ report here and i’ll take a look.

I’d like to confirm that you changed the $32 from 0 to 1 and now power seems low.

I suspect that it’s in an over-speed condition which can be worked around with ‘Constant power’ but it’s not the recommended way through.

I’d also like to know what speed (mm/min) you’re engraving at and at what % power, and what the Speed (mm/min) in the ‘Move’ window is set for. You’re really close - would like to just get this last data figured out.

It appears that the changed settings do not survive a power cycle.

100 speed mm/s and 25 power, when i go to a 100 power it shows but not as good as before when i coded it

ok what do i do since there is no power cycle mode???

This looks great. One last check.

In LightBurn, Click Edit (top row) then wheel down and click Device Settings.
Please confirm the number in S-value max box.

“Power Cycle” is a term we use to say ‘Turn it off, wait a bit, and back on again’.

Sometimes you’re allowed to change the Device Settings and some times you’re not allowed to change the Device Settings. This is up to the manufacturer.

There’s an in-between where you can change the Device Settings but the engraver will forget your decision when it’s turned off. When you turn it back on - the settings will be what the manufacturer set them to originally. It kinda looks like your machine does this.

I went back and checked. $32 should be equal to 1 unless you have a CNC machine or a pen plotter ( or a really strange version of GRBL )

everything looks right. I have the same problem still but as long as i turn the power 100 percent it works. before it was set at 20 and it didn’t but i was getting those layer lines I posted earlier

also how to i change the width and height to inches?

Click this button. It’s likely the fastest way.

Thanks is there a way to keep the laser engraving from going to close to the edges? And my engraver won’t let me auto home for some reason

Some engravers don’t have switches at the end of the travel along each axis. If the Switches aren’t present your machine isn’t set up to Auto-home. $22=0 tells me that Auto-homing is configured off and that the switches are likely absent.

This may be of interest to you.

This is an excellent resource for setting up a project without limit switches.

That still didn’t help this is what it is doing:

Is the laser engraver head in the Front Left corner when you power up/connect the laser? I can not tell from the video - but the answer seems to be no.

When I turn on the laser it just stays where it’s at, also how do I get light burn to actually line up with the square in the program because everything is super off. When I connected light burn to my computer I had to do it manually because there were no options for my engraver

And when we do something 10mm by 10mm it comes out 30mm by 30mm. Everything is multiplied by 3. Is there a way to change that in settings.

I really need help now the laser is weak and wont engrave well

My laser won’t engrave, the laser isn’t as powerful as it once was. Please help
