I have a question about my laser machine. Currently, the maximum cutting width is 100 cm, but I’d like to increase it to 102 cm. The technical support team sent me a photo showing where to make this adjustment, but I’m not sure exactly where or how to do it.
Could anyone explain the process to me? Is it possible to make this change directly on the machine, or do I need to use specific software? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Does the machine have 2 cm more travel in the X axis?
On my OMTech 60 W laser, the machine homes to the right rear corner. The controller will not allow the laser head to move rightward beyond the home point, so the right end of travel is immovable.
Using the machine’s control buttons to jog the laser head left by 700 mm puts the X axis belt holder about 5 mm from the gantry brackets, but manually pushing it (with the power off!) beyond that point bends the belt in a way it does not like.
If your machine is similar, changing the software setting cannot increase the size of the axis, because the laser head will smash into the gantry at the left end of its travel.
Is that by shoving it with the power off or jogging with the arrow buttons on the machine display?
The size of the honeycomb is irrelevant and may not be centered under the machine limits. The X axis linear rail and whatever hardware hangs on it determine the extent of the travel.
If the laser head does, indeed, have another few centimeters of travel, then change the 700 to 702 in the Vendor Tools page and hit the Write button to update the controller.
Edit: That should be 720.
However, if the machine does not have as much travel as you tell the controller, the laser head will smash into whatever gets in its way and will probably damage something expensive and hard to replace.
