When I cut or etch, I’m getting lines when the laser moves from one spot to another. How can I stop this from happening? I have a diode 20w laser. It’s not shutting off after a cut or fill and leaves a line as it travels to the next location. Any help would be great.
New set-up?
Can you type $$ into console and paste results?
Set the mode switch to laser - the $32 variable.

It is new and I’ve never used Lightburn until a couple of weeks ago. Where do I enter that at? I can see the code but how do I make sure the laser turns off after it finishes and then turns on when it begins at the new location? I need it to do it every time. Is there a switch? Or do I need to put the $32 after every move?
If your machine is connected, the best way is Edit → Machine Settings and find the written name of the item you’re after… $32 is the Laser Mode Enable in the gui.
At the bottom of this screen is a button to save this configuration. You should save it for a factory copy, make you change then save it again under a different name…
Before you exit the Machine settings, you also need to write the new data back to the controller.
In essence, the following is the same and is what is generally suggested. Your grbl may have other options. I’d suggest the first way, but here is another way to do it.
In your cut/layer window there are tabs at the bottom… There should be one labeled console. If it’s not there, you need Window → Console and select it.
Click console (green) and then enter command in the box (red)
Console window type $$ then enter. Paste results.
Thank you so much. I’m at work. I teach US History to 6th graders. I’ll have to wait to do this when I get home.
Good luck! Let us know if you have any issues
It worked! Is there a way to make that permanent instead of saving a file and opening it before I do my cut? That would be great. Where is the file that needs to be changed? I’m sure I can do that in the software. Does anyone know what folder I make the change in? Thanks
If what worked was changing your settings, then they should be saved.
You can check by typing in $$ into console and check that setting is still the same.
Most of these variants will save a configuration change in non-volitile memory, but some manufacturers do not…
If you find it does not store the information, there are macro functions that allow you to pre-program the operation…
Good luck… have fun
I’ve tried searching the LB files to replace the original file with the new saved file but can’t find it. I do this in Adobe all the time but this is eluding me. If I change it in the console, will it become permanent? I want the change to be permanent. How can I make it a permanent change? Thanks again.
Shut machine down exit Lightburn, restart and check to see if your setting has been saved.
Will do as soon as I can get back home. Thanks.
You can power cycle your lasers controller and reconnect. If it maintains the correct values you changed, you’re good to go.
No reason to restart Lightburn… although it change which usb port you connect with.
It took. No trace lines. Thanks for being patient. It helped.
