Oh, when you said this I thought you meant I’d have to go into the controller settings as well. That’s good!
Yes I have these multiple machine settings profiles.
I think my problem was that I couldn’t find any variables to change that would make sense. I was changing the engraving/cutting parameters. I think I inadvertently found the right stuff just now when I was calibrating my A/F probe. Hidden under Vendor settings. Makes much more sense now.
Question for you while I have your attention. When my laser homes it jumps back out to a preset position after. I just crashed my head slightly because of this. Do you know what this position is called? Home is obviously 0,0 so that’s not it. I want to save a new position closer to the home for the rotary profile.
Yes the return position is probably set to user origin.
It should not crash any mechanical parts…
Mine is not only set that way, but user origin is the most common setting I use with start from.
It’s a bummer you can’t set it from the software… I don’t know how many times I’ve gone out to the machine and forgotten to press the user origin button… since I frame first, I always see the mistake. Doesn’t make it less irritating that I spaced out pressing the button.
When I cut a jig out, I use absolute coordinates, but I ensure the origin of the jigs part is at some specific location, such as 80x80… I engrave the origin of the object on the jig. This ones 25x25
I can put the jig in, move the head to 80x80 and press origin… I employ start from: user origin with the proper job origin, usually upper left…
This offset depends on the object size, smaller object I move closer to the operator and have these stored in move → saved positions.
Does this make sense.?
All of these various options in start from and job origin are there to make your workflow easier… You have to understand how the coordinate system works, but it’s not rocket science…
Yes, makes total sense. Sometimes I’m so focused on doing stuff, I forget until much later that there are more optimal ways to get the same thing done. Taking the time to actually explore and then implement is a foreign art to me that I need to develop the self discipline in my self.
You just need more time with the machine… When you understand how these options work, it is easy to chose which works best for your situation.
My job origin is normally the upper left… When I do mugs with logos, I use the center left and I can align the mug at it’s manufacturers trademark on the mug… It allows me to center the mug during setup very simply.
