I found the following bug: "Couldn't remove backup - LightBurn 1.7.00"

Hello Lightburn / Support Team;

I found the following bug: “Couldn’t remove backup - LightBurn 1.7.00”

If you “save” or “save as” a project, the following message appears:

"Backup could not be removed - LightBurn 1.7.00

LightBurn could not remove the backup file UNC/********/Data/003 Customers/000 TBS/007 Sound Module/Sound Module-Test2 Pro Micro 1_RvumvS.ibmn2".

No matter where I want to save the file, in my case it is one of my NAS drives, but I have also tried my internal SSD/HDD and the same message always appears. What I noticed is that the bug was not present under the version “LightBurn-v1.7.00-RC-11-7a24f91”.

Hallo Lightburn / Support Team ;

Ich habe folgenden Bug gefunden: “Couldn’t remove backup - LightBurn 1.7.00”

Wenn man ein Projekt “speichern” bzw. “speichern unter will” , kommt folgende Meldung :

It is not present in the 1.7 public release either, at least not to my SSD. It may be a Windows naming issue, or the backup does not exist like you think it does. Can’t remove it if it is not there, right?

Hello. I’m also having this issue! It started right after I installed the v1.7.00 update. I’m using Windows 10 Enterprise v22H2 and saving the file to a network. If I change and save the file locally (such as to C:\Documents and save the file, then try to save it again), I won’t get the error. But if I perform the same steps again but save it on my network, I’ll get the error.

So it seems to be a network only error. And it happens whether use the SAVE icon, or click File > SAVE or File > SAVE AS with the network file. The error always says the file doesn’t exist (which is correct unless it’s hidden). And each time the file name has an additional 6-letters added to the end of the name (such as “…epf_WYZ.lbrn2”). And the letters change with each save/save as attempt.

If it’s helpful, my server is also running Windows 10 v22H2.

Hope this helps…JEB

Thank you all for drawing our attention to this. We are investigating and will report back our findings. :slight_smile:

I installed 1.7.00 today. I restarted my computer and now every time I try to save I get an error message:
Couldn’t remove backup - LightBurn 1.7.00
LightBurn was unable to remove the backup files 'UNC/192.000.0.00/LightBurn/templates/Halloween/Door Hangers/Images_cOjiKY.lbrn2

The name of the file in reality is Images.lbrn2. Everything worked fine yesterday, after upgrading today I get this error. As stated, I have rebooted, Tried opening from recent and using file open. when I try to save, no matter what, I get the error above.

@dunstonj, Thank you for bringing this to our attention, it is a known issue we are currently working to resolve. I am going to move and merge this post into an existing thread the dev team is following to assist in tracking.

Updates will be provided there here. :slight_smile:

I can confirm the same error when trying to save on my NAS disk, all good if I save locally

update to this: I momentarily reverted to 1.6 while the problem will be fixed, opened the file that failed to save in 1.7, and it seems that the changes was actually saved despite the error message

Rick, I have noticed this only happens for files stored on a non-local file (Nas/networked drive )

  • every time I save a file it pops up a box that says it can’t delete the backup file, when I copy and paste between open windows it adds a very long horizontal or vertical tool line.

I read this is a known issue if using a NAS box or cloud storage. Lightburn is working on it.

If you are using only your local hard drive for storage, report the issue to support@Lightburn.com so they can investigate.

We get the same issue when accessing a file on a different computer. The computer doing the cutting is different to the one the files are saved on. We access them as a network computer as a quick link in windows 11. The backup files sometimes stay and are not always visible to everyone. Computers often have to be turned off for you to be able to delete them. Been doing it for ages.

Also why have you changed the order of the save as box sticking discard on the end…very annoying!

This been reported and is being addressed already. MAC/Windows UI issue
