First one being how do you guys go about greasing? Just dab it on and don’t worry about exceess?
2nd is the more complicated one. I need someone to make me understand how this works because I’m lost on it. So my focal lens is close to the middle of this tube, isn’t the lens suppose to be that length from the material? Or am I wrong about that? I want to change the focal length but now I’m perplexed on how to do so.
I wipe down the working areas of the machine, daily, after use. Monthly I wipe off the bearing surfaces and apply a new layer of white grease. This monthly examination also lets me look over the machine in general.
You lens will really depend on the type of tube and nozzle combination you have. The ones I use will allow you to flip them over to change where the lens is in the tube.
So just to be clear you wipe the rails but when you grease them you only grease the bearing surface?
Omtechs customer support has been great until I got to the focal lens issue, tech support told me to change it and adjust my settings in lightburn, then I requested to buy a 2nd tube because it’s an absolute pain to change out and then through an email they told me the shorter focal lens wasn’t compatible with my machine because my focal length is “fixed”
When you get around to aligning the mirrors (because you should not assume they have been correctly aligned before crating the machine), note that the holder for Mirror 3 is jammed firmly against the laser head.
As a result, you must start by loosening the locknuts and turning all three screws inward to get some air between the holder and the mount. Start by getting equal spaces under the screw head and under the holder.
Then you can proceed with mirror alignment, because you’ll be able to turn the screws and have the mount move as it should.
You may safely assume the two other mirror mounts are equally badly adjusted, so expect some major movements before you start the actual alignment process.
