Geezus,
Will somebody please give him is money back.
It’s just not correct what you claim, sorry.
I’m certainly not a Linux expert but use this OS on my 2 old PC’s, for some reasons. My computers are pretty old and none of them have more than 4GB of ram. From Ubuntu to Manjaro, I’ve tried quite a few different variations of Linux. On all variants I have tested, I was able to install LightBurn and use it with my 2(3) different laser machines. Of course there is a difference in the details, e.g. external usb processing. But if you stick to the two officially supported variations of Linux, everything works as it should.
I liked Linux Mint the best, it runs fine with LightBurn but couldn’t handle my usb camera, Mint is also not officially supported by LightBurn - no bad feelings, that’s just the way it is. I installed Ubuntu 20.02 and everything is fine.
Because I have tried so many Linux variations, I finally gave Linux Manjaro a chance as well and it runs great with my laser and the camera. (although Manjaro is not officially supported!)
So when you can’t start LightBurn under Ubuntu 20.04 or Fedora 36, you’re pretty much alone with this problem. You claim that there are many with the same problem as you, it is not true, there are some who have some problem with their OS and LightBurn, but as far as I have seen, none of them have problems, which could not be resolved, installing and starting LightBurn on one of the supported Linux variants.
Yes, Ubuntu version 20.04 would definitely be the better version for you to use unless you don’t mind a few extra “wasted days” here and there to iron out the wrinkles…if you contact support@lightburnsoftware.com then we can certainly refund you if required, but I hope you persevere since you’ve got this far.
hit the google and go look for urself. many ubuntu 22.4 issues
well i’ll keep on using it on windows. But please work on the linux side.
None of the questions in my Google search regarding LightBurn and Ubuntu 20.04 are about not being able to install LightBurn (apart from yours) and in LightBurn’s forum database you are also the only one who has not been able to install LightBurn on Ubuntu 20.04.
I understand very well that you are frustrated that you have this problem with Ubuntu and LightBurn and that is also a shame.
But, in the end, it is only you who has this problem and not all the others you refer to, there are no others who have the same problem.
Also Devuan works,
I am a member of dialout in /etc/groups which gives me r/w access to /dev/ttyUSB0
$ sudo usermod -G dialout
then log out and in again
I use a small shell application to test the communications with my router controller
and bCNC for alternate controller application
Lightburn is great for my work.
I would love to find a vehicle that did not need refilling for 3 months.
For those following the concerns with Marlin.
I have taken the liberty of moving it to the Marlin specific section of the forum.
In my haste, I broke the links threaded here.
You can find the split portion here:
I like linux but do yourself a favour and use Windows10. Problems solved
Glad i didnt buy i keep hearing of buggy lightburn with no
Would love to know more. Where is this information is coming from? We monitor most of the socials for lasering and need to know what “buggy lightburn” means, exactly, so we can fix whatever issue folks may be finding.
The information you have chosen to share here, while drawing our attention, adds little to the actual opportunity to fix a thing. Have you tried LightBurn yourself, to see if you encounter issues? We do offer a 30-day, free trial. Would be interested to hear what you find for your use case.
