Ideas for securely mounting/snapping honeycomb bed to slat/rail bed

HI guys,

We just got our newest chinese generic laser and are looking for ideas on mounting/securing the honeycomb bed to the built in bed.

The laser is a 1390 model (1300 x 900) and the built in bed is the standard (at least for this company) rail/slat bed. Since we work in small odd shaped parts, we wanted a honeycomb bed to prevent pieces from partially dropping thru to the bin and causing laser nozzle hangups (a huge issue on our 1325 laser). They sent us a honeycomb bed “insert” that is 1300 x 900 in size (slightly smaller than the new lasers total bed size). This works fine - it sits in there and does its job and we are happy (so far) with the cut quality (only 3 days in and no production or prototype cuts yet, so that may change! haha). but looking forward what I really want is to be able to mount that bed in such a way as it does not move. we know where the lower left corner is at all times (in absolute coordinates) and of course so that the honeycomb bed remains squared with the laser. Right now it sits on top and is very easy to move… we can of course work with that, but someone out there surely has come up with some brilliant way of securing it that I would just love to know :slight_smile: - Even if it is not necessarily unable to move… so long as it can snap in to place easily and quickly while setting up the material that would be great. My current plan failing some brilliant idea is to have someone come out and engineer something that will do the trick. Someone more clever than me that is lol. :slight_smile:

It sounds like your trying to orient parts on the bed so you need the bed oriented to the machine?
Two thoughts:

  • Lay tape down, cut it and align parts to the tape. Replace tape as needed.
  • get a laser line generator (the type used in construction) position it above the machine and parallel to the x axis. Parts could then be oriented to the the laser line.
