I don’t know if this is an option on your laser, but I removed the lower shroud on mine. It makes the laser easier to see. Since you have an enclosure I wouldn’t be too worried about leaving it off and you should wear your goggles when framing with the lid open anyway.
using the cross hairs effectively reduces your cutting area by the offsets - this makes sense because you need to have the offset space in order to use it. This made using the crosshairs a non starter for me
The framing should show where the laser is going to burn, I’m pretty sure that you are running near the edge of your work area and it’s the overscan that is causing the issue. If you are running at 1000 mm / min with a 2.5% overscan (this gives the laser head time to slow down and avoid the darker burns near the edges) then you need an extra 25mm beyond the frame.
