I’m having trouble engraving and cutting with Lightburn. I think there may be some settings I’m not putting. I have a Sculpfun S9 and the issues I’m having so far is that every project I tried to make, the laser frames it perfectly, but when I hit Start, it engraves lines within the frame and then goes way outside of the frame (the result is nothing like the project)
I searched for existing teoubleshooting steps but nothing seems to work. I can add screenshots if requested.
I can’t help as I use a fiber laser but have you rewatched youtube videos on how to set up lightburn? I have to admit I made a few mistakes when I set mine up.
I’m struggling to understand the problem - it frames in one spot, returns to the starting position, then when the job is started, it goes somewhere else entirely? Without changing anything in the settings?
Edit: Looking at the settings I also notice that you have the S-Value set to 255, while the machine has a 1000… I’m 90% sure they have to match, or you get unexpected results. But it shouldn’t affect position, just power.
I tried the laser with LaserGBRL (free program) and it works great, not in details and it’s really limited, but it always engraves in the frame. When I use Lightburn it frames a project, I tried that keychain example, it frames correctly but when I start the project it goes outside the frame and starts doing random lines, I even tried with straight lines and simple shapes. It just goes random.
That suggests that the communication between Lightburn and the Laser has some issues… I’d say remove the laser entirely from Lightburn, and add it fresh, making sure to follow the guides in the docs. There are also dedicated guides for the Sculpfun S9, though I use a different machine and don’t have any links handy. But it’s a popular machine.
And show a picture of the output. If it does random lines, it could be the case that LB detected a pirated license. Make sure your license is valid and only bought at the official homepage.
Guys, sorry for the late update. I found out what the problem was.
First issue was that I got the Lightburn software from a recommended site, not from the original website, as soon as I got the software from Lightburn directly it worked like a charm.
Second issue, the laser kept wobbling during engraving and cutting. After adjusting the special nut on the bottom wheel everything was fixed.
I can now say that I finally have a laser that works 100%
