Good afternoon. I can find all kinds of fill power scale information. I did find a web site that offers to do an image of an eye with option of finding your power scale, Unfortunately i cant get it to download me the image if the eye it is just a fill gradient chart.
Most of the difficulty is with dpi/lpi and what kind of damage the laser does to the material…
Laser Everything has this excellent video on photo engraving and is one of the best around. It describes how to get the proper dpi/lpi for any laser with any material…
Your profile says you have a 100W homebuilt laser.
What type of material are you attempting to engrave?
You might be hard pressed to turn the power down low enough with a 100W CO2.
That is precisely what it is for. Depending on the material you’re using and how you’ve set up the controller 20% power and up toward maximum speed might be where you’ll need to be.
The desired outcome of the material test is a diagonal line through the array of squares so that a variety of different engraving effects are visible as speed and power change. If 100W is too much for your material you’ll have a mostly vertical line where the laser is barely reliably ON and engraving too aggressively even at your top speeds.
