I have a complex black and white image. I want to trace only the outside of the image and ignore any patterns or lines within. Is there a way to do this? I have changed most of the settings in image trace and cannot get the results I want.
My goal is to engrave/etch the internal structures and use the traced outline as a cut line. Suggestions welcome.
perform the trace, ungroup everything, then select everything, deselect the outside (cut line). apply the engraving settings to the remainder. deselect insides, select outside line, apply cut settings. run.
What James said. Depending on the design and what you want to achieve, you might want to duplicate the outer line to add it to the engraving layer as well as cutting it out later.
