Inherited a dinosaur and want to upgrade

I have a 10+ year old Full Spectrum PL48x36 that has been neglected, shipped around the country, parts stollen and basically running on bare bones.

Recently we started cutting hexagons out of our sound deading material and after 5 solid 10 hour days it stopped cutting all the way through and left the last layer in tact,

We have decided here at the company to instead of spending 5000 on a new machine that we could upgrade the laser tube, all mirrors, lenses, combiner lens, air compressor upgrade, and new power supply for around 1200.

Is this the time that i should upgrade the controller and start learning Lightburn?
How do i identify which controller i need to buy?

Currently a 1250mm / 100w tube that’s 12 years old and original to the machine.

Thanks for any advice.

I would check my lens first as they all machines need some cleaning/maintenance.

1250mm tube is 80W – a 100W tube is about 1450mm

Even old, how they work is relatively simple. Controller drives the tubes high voltage supply and also controls the stepper motors. Looks like you’d need to pick up a different controller, I’d suggest a Ruida 644x type.

I can see a couple of stepper motor drivers, low voltage power supplies, but that’s about it…

No reason to change out parts unless they are failing…

Does the tube lase? Don’t run it without coolant for even a pulse, but do you know if it lases?

Can you control it via the machines console?
