Switch my PC to Win 11, of course it erased a bunch of stuff like my Lightburn license number, my setups, etc.
Now it wants to put my Laser Engraver on port com4 instead of com3. I went along with it until I can’t get the camera and Lightburn to “Update Overlay”. That button does nothing. I have a lot of work to get done and I can’t get this thing to work.
Anyone got some good ideas for me?
Thanks in advance. I’m desperate!!!
Craig
We do not have Win11 here set up on any of our machines (though I’m working on it). For the camera, make sure that LightBurn is allowed to access it through the Windows security settings.
I have to ask - if you had a lot of work to do, why would you install a major OS update?
I have a test machine with Windows 11 on it and decided to try the latest version of Lightburn on it.
I just tried to cut a circle in 3 mm plywood and the 250/100 speed/power looked like it was trying to run the speed at 2500 because the laser drew the circle in seconds rather than minutes. Glad I checked this out as I won’t be updating my work laptop to Windows 11 until I know there is a robust version of Lightburn that can run on Windows 11.
You said “speed 250” - I’m guessing that your new install of LightBurn is in mm/sec, not mm/minute. Speed has units, and if you aren’t paying attention to those, you should be.
If you’re within 10 days of the upgrade you should rollback your W11 installation until you’re in a better position to upgrade.
Settings->Recovery->Go back
Any files you created post upgrade you need to take a backup of before rolling back.
Incidentally, I’m running W11 with LightBurn without drama so there’s nothing inherent in W11 preventing it from working.
The units of the original install is in mm/min and I don’t recall choosing it or even having a choice since it recognized my Emblazer cutter.
The new installation does show mm/sec, which would explain the issue, but it still shows the Emblazer as the cutter and no obvious place to change the units.
Maybe it was something that I had to choose when first installing it over a year ago but did not see any setup choices when installing the latest version on Windows 11.
Nobody told me it was a major upgrade. And there are others on here using Win 11 with no problems. Maybe Staff Oz Owner/Lead Developer, it is because I am an old 74 year old, going senile, and unable to remember things like I used to. Hang in there, one day you will be in the same boat and people will start wondering why you do/don’t do certain things. Thanks for rubbing my face in it. Have a wonderful Christmas! I sure hope Santa doesn’t bring you that chunk of coal, again.
Unfortunately that does not give you a license to be uncivilized.
My PC slogan is: “Never touch a working system (if not REALLY necessary)”
And BEFORE you do that make a system backup to reverse in case of emergency.
I am running Windows 11 on 2 laptops with LightBurn and I have not had any problems.
Question please: so you change it to the mm/min even though it doesn’t say for CO2?
This only affects the display, not the function. Speeds for CO2 lasers typically are higher than diode lasers so mm/s makes sense there. mm/min generally makes more sense for diode lasers. But ultimately this is about preference for how you want the information presented.
@cdobis try unselecting your camera, then re-electing it, then update overlay. I have to do this frequently.
As for the question about updating your operating system, it was a fair question. Operating laser engravers, especially as a business, is a fairly technical endeavor.
