if dot mode is off, should the laser line be constant, ie a constant beam cutting a long slot or will it actually be going on and off at some frequency related to mains frequency?

Technically the LPS is triggered at the PWM frequency but power does not dissipate immediately so can be thought of as being constant.

Amazon were amazingly quick! New Cloudray LPS fitted (different connectors, different fixing centres!) But I got there, it’s working and (for the moment - touch wood) no intermittent cut! I’ve actually cut a square out of my cork! Woo Hoo!
