IP Camera ESP32 / SplitCam did the trick

Hello together

I’m new here on the forum and signed up to share my experience with the ESP32 cam and Lightburn.
As often asked, I wanted to connect the camera via IP with Lightburn.
In doing so, I encountered two problems:

  1. old drivers like IpCameraDriver did not recognize my camera.
  2. when using software to set up virtual cameras, they were recognized by Windows but not by Lightburn. e.g. OBS-Studion,

After a lot of experimentation and even more frustration, I ended up being able to use SplitCam and Lightburn recognized the camera without any problems.

I hope this entry helps one or the other of you.

I can confirm! SplitCam works! I’m using macOS on an M1 Mac mini.

Hey BeatK, would you mind sharing the camera setup as well? I would be interested in doing this. Thanks

We’ve been discussing camera setups in another thread, and I was having issues getting OBS virtual cam to display in LightBurn, so SplitCam was suggested. SplitCam works inside LightBurn, but now the issue is the aspect ratio is 4:3 and not 16:9 like OBS would display. You can see the difference in this gif below. Any idea on how to get SplitCam to the correct aspect of my camera (3840x2160 30 fps stream)

It doesn’t appear that SplitCam supports that higher resolution. Perhaps that’s why it’s offering a cropped aspect ratio.

From the SplitCam website:

Select needed resolution manually from most popular resolutions list: 320x180, 320x240, 400x225, 400x300, 512x384, 640x360, 640x480, 800x600, 960x540, 1024x768, 1280x720, 1280x960, 1400x1050, 1600x900, 1600x1200, 1920x1080, 1920x1440, 2048x1536

Well, that would explain it, hah. I’ll see if my camera supports any of those resolutions. Thanks!

It looks like 1920x1080 is the highest supported 16:9 AR. This would be a perfect 4:1 reduction from your target resolution and probably one of the most likely to be supported.

This had no affect on the aspect ratio in LightBurn. Nothing I set the input/output resolution makes a difference. I’ll just keep waiting for the official LightBurn bridge camera support.

Did the aspect ratio look correct from other camera apps? Was it a problem only in LightBurn?

Seems to be solely a LightBurn issue. Works in other apps just fine.
