Is Lightburn compatible with my SunyLaser?

I have a chinese-made laser machine from a company caller SunyLaser. I have tried to use all the options on Lightburn setup to add the device (Suny-960) but to no avail. It has a DSP controller (at least it looks like).

I was wondering if anyone has the same machine or similar whose got it to work with Lightburn?

Any advise/help will be greatly appreciated as the software that come with it is extremely limited.

Thanks,
Kofi.

Can you take a picture of the controller itself, into the electrical cabinet? Maybe someone can recognize it.

If it does work, it’s a dsp controller and you will have to license it via Lightburn… don’t know about a trial with the Ruida, but I suspect you must be able to.

Get us a picture …

Mines on the left (RDC6442G) and looks like this, but it doesn’t have to match…

Went to a site selling that machine and when I looked up controllers for this type of co2 they only listed Ruida. Maybe a good shot that your machine has one… :crossed_fingers:

Hello Guys,

Thanks for your responses. Very hopeful. Here are pictures of my laser electronics.

Kind regards,

Based on the pictures this seems to be a match. From Controller & DSP Identification - LaserGods.com.

According to this the controller is not compatible with LightBurn.

Can you confirm that you use LaserSoft to control the laser?

Hello, Berainlb.

Thanks for checking and for your advice. I can confirm I use LaserSoft to control it.

Could you advise any other better software i could use in place of the LaserSoft?

I’m not familiar with LaserSoft. Is there something specific about it that you’re trying to address?

Hello,

LaserSoft is usable and i have been using it since getting the machine about 3 or so years now. Many times there are discrepancies when i export to it from AI causing a lot of corrections with the artwork within the LaserSoft software before cutting/engraving. Also, the contour tool is buggy.

That is why i am looking for an alternative i can use. Lightburn has been seriously recommended but unfortunately, looks like its not for me… (sad).

I would suggest 2 things:

  1. Test the workflow from AI to LightBurn to see if you’ll get any benefit. You could potentially test the burn by exporting from LightBurn to a format that LaserSoft can read.
  2. If you find that LightBurn does indeed work better for you then you could do a controller swap on your current laser to one that’s supported in LightBurn.
