I would like to be able to use the ruler to measure the distances from one node to another as to move it to the correct measure.
or I having to space 2 pieces and I must open and close the ruler windows many times until I get to the correct distance.
would it be possible to have a better ruler that does not block the work when I take the measure??
maybe a window that tells me the distance between 2 nodes or between 2 objects would be enough without having to exit from the ruler window.
so, I want to be able to move the node or the object until I get to the measurement that I would like to obtain without having to open and close the ruler
for example, I want to deform a square adding a node at 10,5mm, now I must use grid, put the node and check the measure with the ruler… if measure is not perfect I must exit ruler, move the node or the object, then check again…
another way could be open the ruler with possibility to move objects or nodes as to check immediately if the distance is as I want.
if this is already possible I would like to know how?
thank you.
If you’re moving something manually until items the right distance, that seems like a really cumbersome way to do it.
Drag your shapes so they’re touching, then select the shape to be moved and type +5mm in the position box after the number that’s already there, and it’ll add 5mm to the position of the thing.
I think the ruler could be improved, even just by adding the ability to put a mark where I want to make the modify.
if I want to mark a measurement point along a line, now I can quickly draw a rectangle of size xxx and place it next to it aligned so that I can position an object or a node at the established distance and then remove the rectangle that gave me the correct measurement.
maybe I’m the one who’s using the wrong method.
for example I make an irregular trapezium starting from a square, at the top I have to tighten by 10mm left and 20mm right, if the ruler were improved I could mark where the distance of 10mm and 20mm is along the line of the square, now instead I can quickly make a rectangle of 10mm / 20mm and place it aligned to the square to indicate the point at which to get to tighten.
as you say I have to place an object next to another and then space it with the position box, this would be easier to do directly with the ruler if it will improved, for example I measure the distance I want to obtain and I put a mark there.
it would just be a matter of adding to the ruler window the possibility of marking the end point of the measurement I took, it doesn’t seem like a useless idea to me, I think it would be useful.
me too, but since there is a dedicated tool I think it would be enough to expand its possibilities.
how do I measure the distance between a node and another node? for example it would be useful for me to be able to know these distances without having to find tricks.
the ruler now only measures things already drawn, points that already exist.
the ruler could be improved and easily mark points yet to be drawn, indicate positions of objects or nodes that are not yet in the drawing.
I can also measure a line in empty space but now I have no way to mark the end point.
when I use a plastic ruler and a pencil I can measure the lines of a drawing or indicate a point where to end a line before drawing it.
i propose only this, add a function by pressing a key releases a mark at the distance that i can measure without exiting the ruler function.
It sounds like what you want is a way to specify the length of a line before drawing it, and the ability to drop a marker with the ruler would be a way to do that.
Are you aware that the Line (pen) tool already displays the length of lines while they’re being drawn?
