Hello all,
Is the license for one time purchase ?
Thanks.
I assume you’re asking if the license is perpetual vs a subscription. If so, then yes, the license is perpetual but has some unique elements.
When you purchase a license you’re entitled to free upgrades for a year. This means that you’re free to use all versions of the software up through the upgrade period for as long as you want. However, you won’t be able to use newer versions of the software. You can get access to newer versions of software by renewing the license but you are not obliged to do so. You can simply continue to use the versions you already have access to.
It just has to be within the "running license year), if you want to update after, for example, 2 years, a new license must be purchased.
I see a lot of posts regarding this, I wonder if instead of " Renew License " It was sold as " 12mths of Upgrades" or worded something similar it may reduce the number of questions
I’m not convinced that any amount of wordsmithing will eliminate confusion about this. There’s an entire page on the LightBurn site dedicated to explaining how the license works and yet here we are.
How the LightBurn license works – LightBurn Software
Part of it is that the license type is sufficiently different from other models. Another big factor is that the industry has been largely successful in implementing and transitioning consumers to much less friendly terms with subscriptions/streaming types of models so when a model is different from those it’s not clear in what way it’s different.
There’s also a component where there’s legitimate ambiguity about how the license works, for example on license validation, on-line requirements, specific validity period, activation/deactivation count, etc.
I don’t believe this is the case. You should be valid for versions released within a calendar year from the time of first activation. There are exceptions made where break-fix releases are backdated to allow for activation even not strictly within that period.
This is of course what I mean by what I wrote, it may have come out a little wrong through Google Translate.
Overall, I think LightBurn has always been very generous in helping people with trial extensions or license renewal “forgets”. If people ask nicely, they usually get a nice answer, this applies to many things in life.
