Issue with ComMarker B4 30W laser engraving stopping mid cycle

Hi all. I’m new to this. I have Lightburn Pro 2.0.05 on a new MAC mini running Tahoe 26.3. I have a ComMarker B4 30W laser and I’m trying to engrave brass coins. The engraving stops after a short time (varies) and then resumes red-light scanning, but no further engraving occurs.

Here is a video demonstrating the issue: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1B42BCKsmu_BrwSYsSKls9mygO-Zy9kU-/view?usp=sharing

I have tried the following:

  • Simple engravings rather than 3D sliced, still has issues, it seems to be the time the laser is running rather than what it is running.
  • Changed the stock USB cable to a new one, and added ferrit cores to the power and USB leads to minimize any interference.
  • Tried an external powered USB for Mac Mini (otherwise it has been connected directly in with a USB-C converter.

Once the job stops engraving, I can still click cancel in Lightburn, and it finishes the task (without finishing the job). So I’m not sure it’s a USB problem.

The only thing I have left to try is perhaps switching the lens, but this unit is brand new so I’m not sure if that will have any issue.

This reads like an overheat issue. New laser, reach out to the manufacturer.

I have to agree with @MikeyH about a likely overheating issue. Most of the fiber machines will stop if they overheat. Along with a good reason to contact the vendor and ask.

Assuming it works OK if you let it sit a while, time too cool down? You’re also using pretty high power from the looks of it, maybe a reduction in power for a limited time to test the machine out.
