Issue with my Omtech Polar after new update

Hey there, so when I got my Omtech Polar about a year ago, I would set the distance (17 minus the material thickness) and the thing would not cut through and the cut was not focused as it was a bit thick. I found somewhere in a thread that if you toggle on “move from machine zero” it would solve the issue. So I tried it, and it worked… And dont know why it worked but it did.

So here’s the issue. With the new update, that option seems to be gone. I’ve went to “start to: absolute coords” but it doesn’t fix it. It’s cutting like day one when I bought it before I found the solution with that button.

Im newer to laser cutting. Any help would be amazing.

The two things are not related, in any way. X and Y are one plane and the height of your laser, Z, is on another plane.
Your focus should be the same throughout your entire work area and can only vary if your machine bed is uneven in one corner, for example, or if your gantry is exceptionally crooked.

Exactly, this is why I’m puzzled as to why setting it to “move from machine zero” fixed the laser focus issue. It didn’t make sense but for whatever reason, it worked.

There are some Zaxis control switches in the Device Settings window. Have you checked those?

I have looked in there. I messed around with it and it doesn’t seem to change anything.

I was referring to your mention of the Zaxis “(17 minus the material thickness)”. That Relative Z-moves Only switch should have made a big difference.

Are you using Absolute Coords?
